Argument

Cloud is not a layer beside the others — it is the plate they sit on. It is the only capability that carries the whole composition rather than adding to it.

Role in the system

A foundation, not a component.

Cloud introduces the infrastructure layer: compute, storage, delivery and observability. Every other layer in the composition ends up resting on it, which is why it is drawn as a plate rather than a box.

Infrastructure decisions therefore propagate upward. What can be observed, what can be recovered and what can scale are all settled here, before any feature is written.
